Why Japanese?

I chose to study Japanese because I love Japan and Japanese culture. I hope that one day, I'll get to live in Japan, even if it's for a short time. Though I studied Japanese in high school for four years, I don't have a strong foundation in kanji and I'm still struggling with Japanese grammar (´-ω-`). I've visited Japan twice and I still couldn't order anything on the menu without waiters and waitresses being very confused.

These past four weeks have been easier for me, because the lessons have been more of a review of what I've learned in high school. However, now we're starting to learn more particles and counters, so I'm a little nervous. Like my blog title says, I'm especially scared of kanji! Even though I'm Taiwanese, I don't know how to read or write any Chinese characters (´;︵;`).

Nonetheless, I'm excited to use what I learn in this class when I visit Japan again ೕ(•̀ㅂ•́  ).

  1. I've heard that learning Kanji is not so bad once you get into it. From what I understand, there's a lot of memorization involved, but there is also a certain logic behind the system which makes it easier to learn. So don't worry too much, we're all in the same boat!

    1. I can only hope that it'll get easier once we start getting into Kanji! There's definitely a lot of memorization, but also trying to figure out which meaning that is being used in the sentence will be pretty nerve wracking! I feel as though the multiple readings for the few kanji we know are okay so far, but I can only wonder how tough the other characters will be.
